HAPPY 5TH BIRTHDAY BRAXTON!

Braxton,

Where do we even start?? We can't believe that 5 years have already passed since you were born into our family! We love you so much and can not even begin to imagine our lives without you! You bring so much energy and excitement into our lives! You are always so happy and always have a smile on your face. You are always saying funny things and making us laugh all the time! You are so full of questions and love to learn new things. You are so friendly and care so much about other people and their feelings. You love to make new friends and playing with all your friends and you love living closer to your grandparents and some of your cousins! You are such a great big brother and as soon as Bridger wakes up he is looking for you. He loves you so much and you take such good care of him! You love T-ball and Swimming lessons and you love to go camping with your Dad. You are always asking when you can go to the Sand Dunes so that you can ride the four wheeler!! You love fishing and are always asking when you can go fishing with Grandpa!! You are excited to go to Kindergarten and even more excited to ride the school bus even though you know Mom will be following behind the bus crying! We are so thankful that you were born into our family, we love you so much!!!

We had fun celebrating Braxton's 5th birthday on the 19th. I'm a little late posting this but o'well... Russell and I stayed up until midnight the night before setting up his birthday surprise. We decided to get him a trampoline so that he could spend more time outside getting rid of some of his energy!!! It was probably more for my sanity then anything, but I have to say that we have spent many nights out there as a family playing on it and I'm pretty sure it is going to be one of our greatest investments! He was so excited when he woke up on his birthday to see the trampoline waiting for him! That night Russell and I had my Mom watch Bridger so that we could just take Braxton out to dinner and we have decided that is going to be a yearly tradition. Braxton was so excited to go on a "date" with his parents and it was nice to enjoy the one on one time with him. He wanted to go to Leo's and have Pizza and play video games and we had so much fun! We took him to the store so that he could spend his birthday money from his Grandma and Grandpa Tolbert and he picked out some toys. The next night we had our families over for more presesnts and ice cream and cake. We had a great time!

I DID IT!! I RAN THE "DAM" MARATHON!!!!

Ok let me clarify I ran in the 10K Teton Dam Marathon last Saturday and can we say AWESOME!!! I loved it and I'm so hooked!! I've been wanting to do a race for years now and was all talk and no action until my sweet little neice Emmy was born on March 11. She was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis and when we found out that some of the proceeds of this race went to help find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis how could we resist?? So Emmy you were my inspiration, you are such a blessing to my life already! And can I say how cute she was bundled up in her stroller with Paytin and MaKay while her mom ran the half marathon? She had so many huge smiles and grins for me at 7:30 in the morning that it made the run so worth it! My goal was to finish it and stay alive and I'm still here!! I definitely need to improve on my time, but I'm sure that will come over time. So any runners out there leave me some advice. I would really like to do a half marathon at the end of summer!!! I'm doing a 5k race this weekend and hope to find a few more to run. Paytin and MaKay ran the 5K with Emmy in the stroller, I wish I could have seen them cross the finish line!! They also took Emmy back to Lisal who was running the half marathon and she crossed the finish line with her as well.. Then we all ran the family fun run which is a mile and it was so fun. Braxton loved it and got a medal at the end and keeps asking when he can do another race so he can get another medal!!! He was so funny! He would run really fast and then walk because he had a sideache, but as soon as there were people standing there cheering him on he would give them a five and run really fast until they were out of sight!! So funny! Here are some pictures of our day at the races! I have a ton to blog about, I am way behind but I decided since this was most recent I would hurry and put it on and blog the rest of my stuff in the next few days!

Easter Weekend

We had a great Easter weekend, Russell and Braxton took a camping trip with his brothers up to the sand dunes on Friday night until Saturday and Braxton was so excited to be able to go camping and spend some one on one time with his Dad. Russell's brother Kelly has a little four wheeler that they keep up at the sand dunes and Braxton spent all day Friday and Saturday riding it. He loved it so much and asks me every day if I will take him to the sand dunes!! Bridger and I went up on Saturday and spent the day up there and Bridger had fun riding on the four wheeler and the razor. It will be a nice break for me when Bridger will be old enough to go with Dad and Braxton!!!! Of course we didn't get any pictures of camping, so hopefully the next trip I will be better.
Sunday morning the easter bunny had left some treats for the boys and hid eggs around the house so the boys had fun finding the eggs. We went to church and the Primary sang two songs in Sacrament and they did a great job! We went to my Mom's Sunday afternoon to have dinner and an Easter egg hunt for the kids. They had so much fun and even Bridger got the hang of it. By the time we were done and trying to get a picture of all the kids, Bridger was throwing a fit!

Visiting Emersyn

I'm a little late in blogging these pictures, but my niece Emersyn is so cute and I was able to go visit her at Primary Children's a couple weeks ago. I was able to hold her a few different times and I am so grateful that she is now home and doing well. She still has a lot to go through, but she is already an amazing little girl. You can feel her sweet spirit so strong when you are holding her and we know that she is going to bless so many lives! We love her so much!! She has a great Mom and Dad and wonderful big sisters that will take very good care of her!! Here are a few pictures of her at Primary Childrens. The picture didn't turn out very good, but my mom had shirts made for all the girls, and Emmy's say's I'm Emmy, MaKay's said, I'm Emmy's Big Sister, and Paytin's said I'm Emmy's Bigger Sister, and they would wear them to the hospital when they would go visit!

So Trevor and Lisal had their baby on Wednesday and she is so sweet!! They named her Emersyn and she weighed 5 lbs 8 oz and we all love her so much!! I don't want to say much, but would like to ask everyone who reads this to please pray for her. She is having some medical complications and was flown to Primary Children's yesterday. They don't know for sure what is wrong and are running tests right now. We don't really know anything right now except that we could use all the prayers we can get... We love her and her family so much and pray that everything will be okay... Here are some sweet pictures of little Emersyn....

Bridger is helmet free, but not bruise free!!

So we went to Salt Lake this past weekend and had Dr. Appts for Bridger on Tuesday and he is now helmet free!!! We are so excited that we don't have to mess with it anymore, yet it always seems like we are missing something. It has been a part of his life for over a year so it will take some adjusting! Of course he has never been careful about smacking his head on stuff because he has always had the helmet and it has never hurt, however today somehow he managed to smack it on the coffee table and got a nice bruise... Hopefully it doesn't take long for him to figure out that he no longer has a helmet!! Here are a few pictures of him helmetless and with his first bruise on his head!! I'm sure this is the first of many!!

I LOVE MY PRIMARY CLASS!!

So I just have to say that I love, love, love my primary class! I teach CTR5 which is Braxton's class and they are so cute, but I had to share what one little girl named Abigail said today. We were sitting in Primary and they were being taught a new song called How firm a foundation which is in the hymn book. Sister Byram asked everyone if they new what a hymn was.. Without hesitation Abigail blurts out "Yes I know it's a boy"!!!!!!!!! We were all laughing so hard we were in tears and to top it off there were many visitors including the Stake Primary Presidency!!! So cute! I love the truths and honesty of all these little kids. It just blows me away how much they know and how much they want to learn. They have learned the song God Gave us Families and they sang it so well today that it brought me to tears and you could feel the spirit in that primary room so strong!! Conclusion: I love primary!!

So my mom called yesterday morning and my Dad wanted to take the kids sledding behind his tractor in their pasture and the kids had so much fun!! It was beautiful day and they were out there for hours! He finally had to tell Paytin and Braxton that he was tired because I think they would have stayed out there all day! He took Bridger and Addison for a little ride and they didn't know what they thought about that! Braxton also told Paytin that he wanted to ride with her so that she could hold him!! Here are some cute pictures of all my nieces and nephews minus Brooks', we missed you buddy!!! You would have had a ball! My dad even made them a fire in his fire pit to keep them warm! Thanks Dad/Grandpa for doing that for our kids! Thanks Mom/Grandma for all the yummy snacks! We love you both!

Bridger's Surgery 1 year ago

So I'm really sorry, but this post is going to be a really long one, so I won't be offended if you don't read it, but I've been thinking about Bridger's surgery alot this last week and feel like I need to document what happened, so that I will be able to tell him when he gets older. After three days of having strong contractions and being dilated to a 4 and not changing, Bridger was finally born on 10/28/07 at 10:36 am two weeks from his due date and was a whopping 8 lbs 13 oz. I remember making a few trips to the hospital where they would monitor me and then send me home. On the 27th we went and walked all over Salt Lake hoping things would get going and we finally decided to go back in that night crossing our fingers that they would just induce me. The first nurse that was there had us walk around the hospital for a couple of hours and that still did not help. She was not a nice nurse and was going to send us home. Lucky for us her shift ended and a new nurse came in and let's just say she was an answer to our prayers! She did not want to send me home and convinced the doctor to let me stay overnight and they would induce labor at about 4:00 in the morning. I got an epidural around 11:00 so that I would be able to get a few hours of rest. 4:00 came and they started me on the pit. That got things moving and around 9:00 they broke my water and by 10:36 he was here! I remember during pushing that his heart rate would drop and the doctor was getting nervous. He told me that I HAD to get him out on the next push because he was started to get distressed. Thankfully I was able to get him out on that push. I remember thinking that he was so handsome and that I was so grateful to have him in my life. I noticed that his head shape was different, but I just thought that it was from the delivery and didn't think much of it. I remember laying in the hospital bed holding Bridger when the pediatrician came in the morning after I had him. She sat down with us and told us that everything looked great with him except for..... And as parents that is the last thing that you want to hear and you just fill sick to your stomach. She then informed us that he had what is called Metopic Craniosynostosis. It sounded so horrible and I remember just bursting into tears and didn't hear much else of what she told us. We researched and found out that this condition is when one of their soft spots fuses before it is suppose to and in this case it was the soft spot that is located down the forehead. Basically what happens is that there brain would not develop where it is suppose to and would push out anywhere there was room and could cause developmental issues. The most common procedure to fix this is where they do a zig zag incision across the head from ear to ear, cut out the bone and put plates and screws in that dissolve within six months. There would be swelling around the brain for around 6 months and they would spend about a week in the hospital. Needless to say my husband and I were devastated and did not want our sweet little baby to have to go through all of this. The weeks following his birth were a whirlwind of blood tests, eye exams to see if there was damage to the eyes, CT Scans and doctor appointments with the Neurosurgeon, Dr. Kestle and Plastic Surgeon. Dr. Siddiqi. Upon meeting with the plastic surgeon he informed us that about a year ago they had started doing a new procedure called a cranio stripectomy where they do a three inch incision right on the hairline and grind away the fused bone. It is a lot less invasive, no swelling around the brain, no plate or screws, and two-three days in the hospital. They also have to wear a helmet for 8-12 months after surgery to reshape their head. Bridger would be the 13th one to be done this way. The only way that they can do this surgery is if they catch it within the first 3 months of life, because the key is getting them in the helmet as soon as possible. Surgery was scheduled for January 4th 2008 and we pretty much had to try and go about life with surgery being a couple months away. They also told us that we had to keep him healthy or surgery could not be done. I was working full time and also carried our insurance so there was no way that I would be able to quit and we did not want the kids to be in daycare and risk Bridger getting sick. My Mom and Dad and Russell's parents are such a blessing in our life and my mom took two months off of work to come live with us and take care of Braxton and Bridger and Russell's Mom also took off two weeks to come stay after my mom left. We stayed home for Thanksgiving and Christmas because we did not want to risk him getting sick. We didn't take him anywhere and pretty much quarantined ourselves to the house. The week of Bridger's surgery what do you know? He got a cold! We aren't sure how, but he somehow managed to get a little cough. We prayed and prayed that it would go away and showed up to Primary's on the 4th for surgery where they heard him cough and decided it just wasn't worth the risk and cancelled surgery! We were devastated, and just wanted it to be over with. Looking back now I can say that we are so thankful that they waited because he really was not well and it wouldn't have been worth it. They rescheduled the surgery for the 24th of January and told us to pull Braxton out of Preschool and to be as careful as possible because if surgery could not be done on the 24th they would have had to do the other surgery. Russell and I still went to work, but changed our clothes and used so much germex before we would hold him! Byt he 24th he was healthy and we were able to get the surgery done. It was scheduled for 1:15 and we was not able to have any breast milk after 8:00 am and could have pedialyte until 10:30. It was horrible! He was so hungry and so tired and we just had to hold him and cuddle him and make him as comfortable as possible before surgery. I remember when the doctors finally came and got us and they let me carry him until we got to the surgery doors. I think that was the worst moment of my life, having to hand over my almost three month old baby to the doctors. It was horrible! I knew he was in good hands, but he was so little and it just broke my heart. Russell and I were both just sobbing. My parents, Russell's parents and my sister-in-law and her husband were all at the hospital to wait with us and I was so grateful to have them all there. Surgery was about 2 hours and things went really well. He was moved to the NICU and we were able to see him about an hour after surgery. I still remember seeing him hooked up to all the machines laying in the giant hospital bed all by himself. We did not want to leave his side. We were able to get a room to sleep right there by the NICU unit but I didn't want to leave. I slept holding him in my arms in the rocking chair for most of the night. Russell traded me off and I went and slept for about an hour that night and couldn't stand to be away from him. The nurses have you leave for an hour in the morning and an hour at night so that they can update all the nurses on everyone's condition and I remember when we came back in, Bridger was asleep in the bed. Russell went over and picked up his hand and said Daddy's here buddy and Bridger opened his eyes and looked at him so sad and just whimpered. It was so sad and Russell just started crying. It was so hard to see him like that. He had lost a lot of blood and were worried that they would have to give him a blood transfusion, but in the end they decided against it and in the end he didn't end up needing one. He spent one night in the NICU and one night on pediatrics floor and we were able to go home on the 26th. We went in the next week to get him scanned for his helmet and he received his first one on February 14th 2008. The first two weeks were horrible and he hated it, but it doesn't even bug him anymore. He has to have it on for 23 hours a day and can only have it off for baths. He has been through three helmets and we are hoping that he will be done wearing them within the next month. He is such a fighter! Someone asked me the other day what I learned through all of this and I've been thinking about that alot this week. I learned that love is unconditional and whatever our children are born with they are still our children and we love them no matter what. I learned that we have such loving and supportive family, friends and neighbors, people that gave up time in their lives to help with our children, family and friends that sent us care packages, and money to help with Doctor's Bills. Someone even left us a gas gift card on our doorstep to help with traveling to and from Primary's. We are so blessed and we are so grateful for this challenge in our life because it truly strengthened our testimonies of the gospel. Christmas 2008

We had a great Christmas this year and we were so grateful to be here to celebrate with our families! Last year we weren't able to come home for Thanksgiving or Christmas due to Bridger's medical condition so it was extra nice to be able to be here. Christmas Eve we spent the evening with Russell's family. Christmas we just stayed home and enjoyed our time together playing with all the fun things the boys got. Friday we had my family party in the afternoon and one with my extended family, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc on Friday night. There are so many pictures so I just put them in a slideshow. Enjoy!

Christmas Candy Making Day!

Every year we get together with my mom, sister, and sister in law and make candy plates for neighbors. We make dipped pretzels, caramels, sugar cookies, chocolate dipped gummy bears (my favorite!), chocolate dipped cinnamon Santas, peanut butter cups, you name it, we probably made it!! This is the first time in at least 5 years that I was able to be there and it was so much fun! The kids love to help and are getting old enough that it is fun for them, but I'm sure they ate more then they made! But so did I, so o'well! Bridger and Addison also loved to empty out the cupboards and the older kids had to take a break after a while and go outside to do some sledding.
*Disclaimer* A lot of the pictures have the children licking there fingers and eating while they were making the candy and to the best of our knowledge we made them wash their hands every time we saw them = )!!!

Why we didn't decorate our Christmas tree!!

It happened a number of times so I was really glad that we don't have many decorations and that I didn't put them all on there! I was in the kitchen making dinner when I heard Bridger crying in the living room. I went in there and this is what I saw.....

I just had to post a few pictures of the boys. I usually try and get up and get showered and ready before the boys wake up and I sometimes don't make it since they wake up between 6:00 and 6:30, but Braxton is so excited to see Bridger in the mornings that he likes to climb in the crib and play with him while I finish getting ready... This particular morning Braxton had my MP3 Player and they were sitting in there listening to music!! It was so cute I had to take some pictures. The other pictures are of Bridger and this is how I found him taking his nap this afternoon. He was sitting up in the corner of his crib sound asleep so I had to take some pictures. Isn't he so sweet! I love spending my days with them! He also likes to empty drawers out and sit in them.. One of these days I'm hoping to post a video of him walking but he's not quite there yet. He is getting close and will take about 3 to 5 steps at a time so I think it will be soon! Oh and just so you know half the pictures are of Bridger without pants, because he's to skinny and they are to big in the waist and he crawls right out of them so I decided that unless we are going somehwere he will be pantless until he starts walking!!! It gets to be a pain putting them on a million times a day!!!!

I'M GOING TO BE AN AUNT AGAIN!!!

I just had to share the exciting news!!! My brother and his wife are expecting again! She is so good at keeping secrets and is already 20 weeks along, so she is due the end of March!! They don't find out what they are having so it will be a surprise to all of us! They have a 9 year old and a 6 year old, both girls. I am so excited that we are going to be close to them when the little one arrives!!! YAY!!!!!!

So the last two Saturdays I haven't seen Braxton or Russell for most of the day. Since we are living in Idaho, Russell's brothers go riding every weekend and Russell and Braxton have been going with them and loving it. Russell's brothers have these side by side machines called Razor's and Rhinos and they have been going to the mountains while the weather has been nice. It's all braxton talks about and Russell and his brothers are amazed that Braxton isn't scared... Apparently it is a good thing that I am not there... Every time they get home Braxton comes running in saying "Mom we went really fast and we went up some really big mountains!!! It scares me, but he is enjoying having his dad around to do things with, so its good for them, plus it gives me a much needed break!!! I only have two pictures of them before they left, but I thought they were so funny. Braxton had to wear his hat backward's like his dad!!

CARVING PUMPKINS, HALLOWEEN PARTIES AND MORE!

Halloween was a lot of fun this year.. We started by carving our pumpkins on Wednesday night and me not being the very crafty one was pretty proud of our pumpkins!!! Ha Ha! Thanks to templates online we were able to come up with some faces!! I can't find the video, but when i cut open the pumpkins to carve them Braxton had a fit!! It was to messy for him... I took his shirt off so he could dig in, and he stuck his hand in, pulled out one seed and decided that was enough for him so he wouldn't touch it again!! So lucky me got to clean out both pumpkins by myself while Russell was putting together our computer desk and braxton was looking at me like I was crazy!! Thursday night we went to the church halloween party, and Friday we went to my Mom's house, and both grandparents houses. After that we went over to Doug and Beckies for a halloween party and saw all of Russell's family. Russell took Braxton trick or treating for a little while and then we went home. It's so much fun to be home close to our families, we love it!! We didn't stay very long because Bridger was so ready for bed!! Oh and by the way let me explain Bridger was suppose to be a skunk but he threw a major fit the night of our ward party and bawled like crazy so we ended up switching him to be a lion. Thanks to Tiffany who let us borrow the costume or he wouldn't have had one!!! He was much happier in the lion costume, though I'm not sure why!!!! So at the ward party he was a lion, but he was okay in the skunk costume for Halloween so he that's why you will see him in two different costumes! Braxton was spiderman and loved every minute of it!!

BRIDGER'S 1ST BIRTHDAY!

Hey everyone I'm back in the blogging world!!! We finally got our computer set up and and I am so far behind that I just figured I would start from this point and move forward instead of going clear back through summer! Just an update.... We moved to Idaho October 1th and are living in Rigby. We have gotten pretty much moved in, but still have a lot of organizing to do and we still don't have our T.V. set up = (!!! So needless to say I'm missing way to many of my shows!!!), but at the same time it has been pretty nice, to be able to just focus on getting stuff done and playing with the kids... Braxton starting preschool last week and is loving it. He has it Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 8:15-10:45, which is perfect and I love that I can take him and pick him up.. Another good note, we got multiple offers on our house last week on the same day and after a little negotiating accepted an offer pretty close to what we were asking. We are very excited and hope that everything goes through with the inspection and appraisal, If so we will be closing on November 20th and then closing on our house here in Rigby. Bridger also celebrated his 1st birthday the 28th and we had a family party for him on the 26th. It was so fun to be able to have lots of family over, but he wasn't quite sure what to think of everyone!! Here are some pictures of him opening presents and his birthday cake... By the way he hated the cake and didn't want to even touch it.. He would barely touch the cake, so I grabbed his hand and smashed it into the cake and he bawled!!! It was too funny! Oh and by the way he still does have his helmet = ( We went back to Salt Lake on October 21st hoping we would be done but he has to have it until at least December 16th that's when we will go back in and meet with the doctor's...

Catching up....Summer Fun!

Hey Everyone! So I'm finally going to do a catchup from the summer! I don't know if I will get it all done today so I will post what I can. In July we had a family reunion with my Mom's side of the family in Island Park and we had so much fun! It was so fun to see everyone and let all the kids play with their cousins! We played games and helped do some maintenance on the cabin for Grandma and Grandpa. We got to see our aunts and uncles and cousins that live in Washington, Colorado, and Boise, and I realized just how old I'm getting! My cousins are getting so grown up, I can't believe it. Braxton had fun playing with Austin and I think they spent hours playing Badminton! They look so much a like that it cracks me up! It will be fun when we are in Idaho and can see them more! I thought it would be easier to post a slideshow so enjoy!

So Russell came to town this weekend to do some more work around the house and to get a few more things done so that we can hopefully get it sold!! We worked hard all day Saturday and decided to go and do something fun together as a family. We had been outside in the heat all day so we decided to go bowling and can I just say Oh My heck it was hilarious!!! I don't think Russell and I have ever laughed so hard. Braxton was so funny and so proud of himself. We had so much fun! We can't wait until Bridger is old enough to share in the fun too, but he loves to watch his older brother!

FIREWORKS AT GRANDMA AND GRANDPA TOLBERTS

Here are some pictures of us doing fireworks at Grandma and Grandpa Tolberts. Russell loaded up on fireworks this year and the boys had so much fun! I got some cute pictures of Braxton and Bridger this night too. It's hard to get pictures of them both looking at me, so I did some separately as well. Braxton made it until about 30 seconds into the fireworks at the Greenbelt in Idaho Falls and was out cold. He had a long busy day!!! Hopefully he makes it longer next year!!

And Oh yeah I'm in trouble because he likes to drink my mountain dew!!!

WATER FUN AT GRANDMA AND GRANDPA DROLLINGERS!

After the Parade we went to Grandma and Grandpa's for a barbecue and to play on the slip n' slide. Paytin, MaKay, Braxton and Rylee all had fun and when they got tired of that they put a sprinkler under the trampoline. Lisal and Tristan jumped with them and then helped the kids start a water fight by chasing everyone around with the sprinkler. It was great fun! Russell and I hid out in the house most of the time = )!!

I am finally getting some pictures posted of our fun filled Fourth of July weekend. We went to the Idaho Falls Parade with our family. Braxton was so excited. He loves parades and loves to hang out with all of his cousins. Paytin, MaKay, Rylee, Addison and his little brother Bridger! It was so much fun!
